Post Blowers Blowers Blowers

Well I finally bought a supercharger.
I found a used Paxton SN-89 kit missing only the pulley and I purchased it for $750 used from a guy.
Says it is all in good condition and works good, so hopefully all will go smooth. It makes 6psi of boost, but I'm going to buy the smaller pulley and go for more boost.

I also had a line on a T-trim kit with only 1000miles on it for $2000. I almost got that, but the cheap price of the other one caused me to get it.

Good luck. A friend of mine bought a used Paxton kit for a chevy truck, and the thing was a piece of crap. It never did run very well (it was cobbled together) and the compressor blew up after about 6 months.

You can get them rebuilt, but I think it is expensive. Anyway, this always scared me away from buying a used blower, but the price was right, so maybe you will have good results.

go for the T trim. With the HP bug still at large, the T will allow you grow to what ever you want.

Hey cool I just picked up a Blower too.The NOS was getting too expensive(like $300 on only 8 bottle fills so far )and I only had the #47 jet in it.

I hope you dont get a raw deal on it.

Paxtons have a bad rep but I dont think there that bad at low boost / impeller speed levels.

The vortech will have better relability and you wont have to get any of the support stuff to get safe power out of it.fuel pump,by-pass,actual gears, pullied for good boost level already.

Good luck.just remember be conservative on the tune at first.

This kit comes with an FMU, the calibration I have no clue of, and the guy doesnt know either.

Will my 24lb injectors be enough? Im shooting for 420crank hp.

I am also going to get some long tube headers if anyone thinks it will be a benefit.

Also w/ the blower should I switch back to the stock crank pulley? If so I will be selling a set of march underdrives in almost new condition, along with my H-pipe and Mac 15/8 shorties.

Thats what I'm debating, with the FMU, I dont know if the 24's will hold up or not.

Its hard to find blower experts around here.
Not that many guys have blower setups.

On its way: Paxton Sn-89 with dyno tuning and long tubes.

For 6 lb's of boost your 24's will do with an fmu, but 30's are always a good idea.

Hey Sky,

I owned a 6 psi Paxton before, and all I can say is you should be checking the blower oil every week. Paxton seals are known to fail often, like every 12,000 miles. Hopefully this has changed. I mean, when the blower runs out of oil, you're in a world of hurt. Been there.

Your underdrive crank pulley will not work with the blower crank pulley. Honestly, you might not want the underdrive pulleys because they compromise cooling.

If you really want to use underdrive pulleys, ASP sells a combination underdrive pulley which powers the both the blower and the accessories.

Cool

SKY,

When I got my kit I got an extra H.O. bypass(complete with valve, blower outlet blower inlet peice, and all the tubing). The outlet(aluminum) was drilled for NOS but there is a bolt in it and it is around back so you dont see it unless you look for it.make me a fair offer if you want it.

This is a must for over 8psi.It say's Vortech on it ,but it can be ground off,and will bolt on and work fine with the Paxton.
this will help the blower live at those boost levels.

The 24's will Barly be enuf and your fuel pump will need more flow,at least a 255 lph. Anything smaller wont flow nearly enuf at the pressures you'll need to be safe.

It's best to go with at least 30's but better yet get 36's and ditch the FMU.

Personally I'm going with either 42's or 36's modified to flow near 70lbs, a 190 intank with a aeromotive fuel pump,no FMU and a JMS chip.

I found a pulley set for 10psi with the belt for $200. I think this is what I am going to purchase.

Probably need injectors too huh?

Sn-89's were decent blowers about 10 years ago. I had a 5# Sn-89 and can tell you within a few months you will be kicking yourself for not buying that Vortech. That Sn-89 is good on a bone stock eng. for a little extra steet get up and go. About the only advantage to the Sn-89 is you won't have to upgrade your fuel system. I wouldn't try and pulley a paxton for more boost w/o an oil cooler.
