Default Bought some Edelbrock Heads, Need Advice

I just got a deal on a set of Edelbrock Heads for $400, the number reads #6025 under the valve covers and they are pedestal mount. The number on the front of the heads read, E.O. D-215-49. The intake ports look like they've been cleaned up alittle. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 88 HO 302 bottom end to go with these heads.

Can someone give me some info on these heads? What kind of pistons will I need to buy for the bottom end. I think I may switch over to a carb set up as well, but I'm still insure of this. Lastly which cam do you guys recommend for me. It's gonna be a weekend car and occasional drag strip.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The 6025 heads are a normal Edelbrock Performer head. They're still a 20-degree inline Windsor head so no changes in your pistons are necessary. You should of course check piston-to-valve when you install the heads since P-V clearance is affecteed by the valve size, camshaft, rocker ratio and amount of milling done on the head/block.

How do I check the piston to valve clearance?

Thanks for your input.

Mock up engine and put clay on top of piston. Turn by hand CAREFULLY, if you get resistance--STOP--. Then pull cyl. head and measure the thickness of the clay. You need about .100.

Or....put piston at TDC. Remove valve springs from valves. install head and measure how much the valve moves before touching piston. Subtract the cam lift, times the rocker arm ratio and you'll have clearence figure.

The free-drop method isn't necessarily accurate, especially if the cam is advanced or retarded.

Use the clay method but you have to make sure that you use a solid roller to do it. I've taken a pair of hydraulics, disassembled them, flipped the internals and re-assembled. This makes them solid and perfect for checking cam/head installations. Remember to only take the slop out of the rockers when you use this method.

Well I finally got my combo together but need help with a cam selection. Here's the comb so far:

Holley or Mighty Demon 650 DP
Typhoon Crosswind intake
Edelbrock Performer Heads
Crane 1.7 rockers
MSD Ignition
Centerforce Clutch
T5 Tranny
373 Gears

What cam do you all suggest, or do I need to change switch my 1.7 rockers for a set of 1.6 rockers?

I bought a B-303 came over the weekend, and I'll keep the 1.7 roller rockers. I also found out that my edelbrock heads have the 1.94 intake valves, so I can keep my current bottom end as is. How does my combo sound?
