Price estimate for barely used Edel. Perf. RPM alum. heads w/ 2.02/1.60 valves??
I want to sell the aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads that are currently on my '90GT. The part# of the heads is #6025, and they have the 2.02/1.60 valves with studs & guide plates. I have an aquaintence on another stang site that wants to buy them...but I'm having trouble deciding on what to charge him. I want to put a few hundred along with the money I get for my heads and upgrade to some AFRs. My Edelbrock heads are currently on my healthy, good running rebuilt 306 and are in great condition. The heads only have 20K miles on them. Let me know what you guys think. These same heads are going for $1,059 from Summit. Thanks in advance.

20,000 miles is a lot for used performance parts. no more than $700

AFR vs. Edelbrock
Thanks for the input guys. So the AFR 185s is what I'm looking at. Those go for around $1200, right? Do you think I should even bother with swapping the heads? My Edelbrocks are box stock...so I know the AFRs will out flow my Edel. I'm just debating if the power I will gain, will be worth the $500-$600 that I'll have to spend to get the AFRs? What do you think...would you do it?

AFR 185's are very similar to the Edelbrocks Performer RPM's, but I believe the AFR's 185's would have more potential(better airflow and porting gains). What are the stock flow statistics on each?

guestimation
By looking at the flow charts...do any of you gear heads know what kind of horsepower increase I could gain from changing from my Edel. Perf. RPM heads to the AFR 185s? You think something like 15-20hp?? I'd be happy with 20 real horsepower that I could feel. I've been told that the AFRs will give me more power across all of the RPMs..and definitely more up top. But I'm still debating...because brand new 185s are $1,350, and I'll be lucky to get $700 for my Edelbrocks. Whatch ya think?

a combo of the 185's w/ some mild porting and the performer rpm intake would probably net you close to .4 sec in the quarter. the afr 185's flow a lot more air stock than the performer rpm do.

Now that's more like it. I was hoping to pick up about 3 tenths in the 1/4 mile. But do you really think I'd need to port the AFR 185s? I thought those things came ready to rock straight out of the box?! Wouldn't box stock AFRs still net be a decent gain in power? And the Edel. Perf. RPM EFI intake manifold...does that have the same lower intake as the Performer that I currently have on my motor, or is a completely new intake...top & bottom? I thought I read somewhere that only the upper intake was changed? Anyone have any info. on this? |
