Boxed Intakes
Over the weekend I won a Cartech Boxed Aluminum Upper Intake with a Truck Lower. My question is: I know this is overkill for me running n/a but would this intake be a lot better then the edelbrock performer when I spray 150 or 200 shot?
My heads are stock fully cnc ported with 192/164 valves and double race springs. I also run 1.7 rockers with a B-cam advanced 2 degrees. I also just installed long tube headers. I'm looking for top end power. I will be leaving the line at over 5000rpm shifting over 6000 and spraying down the track. Any help from race guru's will be greatly appreciated. ------------------ 92' LX Hatch 5 spd Edelbrock Performer Intake, pro-m 75mm MAF, 70mm T.B., 24lb injectors, 190lph, Mac fenderwall cold air induction, mallary ignition and coil, Cobra 1.7 rockers, BBK full length headers, 373:1 gear, upper and lower control arms, supersubs, 50/50's, Eibach front drag springs, Moroso rear trick springs, no sway bar, battery in hatch, compucar N20 kit |

Boxed intakes move your power up more, how high, I'm not sure. Your current setup gives a lot of lift and therefore, more upper end power, and as you say you like it up there. You have hardcore springs, so your valvetrain is up for high revving, but are you still using a stock bottom? If so, does anyone know how high a stock bottom end can rev?

IMHO you would need some better heads and a cam that can rev to 7000 RPM to properly use that intake. I used to run a Cartech box on my blower car and ran it NA on saveral occassions just for the heck of it and you could really notice the loss of torque...on the top end the engine would just pull and pull and pull without ever giving up...i had an X303 cam and TFS street heat heads with mild port work. I had a DSS bottom end and would shift at 6500 RPM with that intake. I would sell that thing and buy you a nice set of aluminum heads or put it on the shelf for some fun later.
Hope this helps! Good luck! |

The bottom end is basicaly stock. The only thing I've done is add a D.S.S. main girdle and put new main and rod bearings. Thanks for the replies guys. Anyone else!
