BREAKING IN MY 4.10'S???
 

hey guys i am geting my 4.10's put in tommorow morning and i will be geting it back after school on the same day.
Do i need to break the gears in or can i go at it as soon as i get my car back?
If i do need to break them in how many miles do i need to put on them before i rag on them?

You do need to break them in. If memory serves correctly.......this is what I did:

Didn't get on it when I picked it up.

Kept it at/under 55mph.

Being that I live 70 miles away from where they were installed. I pulled over after 30 minutes to let them cool off for 15-20 minutes.

I repeated this regimen for 200 miles (only took another day to accumulate 200 miles as I work 75 miles away!).

I got this break-in schedule from a link someone posted on the Corral.net.

Man..75 mile drive to work and you put 4:10's in..you must be playin rich man game!

Actually, the 'Stang is just for the weekends. I was driving it for that whole month because my daily driver was getting a new engine put in it (dealer took FOREVER to put in the new engine).

Get this, though. My daily driver is a Ford Expedition! Soooooo......lately, I've parked the truck due to gas prices and drive the 'Stang to work. Only a little better gas mileage, but still bad. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

I'm used to cruising along at @80mph, though, which SUCKS with 4:10's.

*sigh*....Hopefully, when I swap in the T-5, I can tone it down a bit with some 3:73's. Then again, it is a 'vert so maybe I'll stick with the 4:10's http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

I've seen numerous people put gears in, back it off the trailer and bang gears all night. I think that's a myth.

I went out and romped mine only a few blocks from the shop. That was a year and several thousand miles ago and no problems at all, not even gear whine.
