![]() Hello all and happy holidays!
I was the subject of an unpleasant experience last night. I had just finished installing my rebuilt and suped AOD and had been babying the car for a few weeks to break it in and last night I let her have it on the way home. A few minutes of hard driving later, I smelled an intense burning smell and I went crazy scanning the car. When I pulled to a stop, smoke was billowing from the engine bay. A quick inspection revealed oil all down the passenger side of the enginebay including the smoking headers that were also covered in dino juice and the underside of the hood! Further inspection revealed almost completely dry areas around the head gaskets and valve cover gasket. I then traced the splash back to the troublesome little hole on the side of the timing chain cover. I had noticed this port on installation of my mechanical fuel pump port equipped timing chain cover. What is this good for? I usually stick a bolt in it but apparently there's enough oilpan pressure (?!?) to eject it and squirt oil out the side of the engine!
