Question Hardest gear to hit!

When power shifting which is the hardest gear change for you?

2nd to 3rd. Especially with the stock shifter. I've heard the aftermarket shifters are a lot better, I may have to try one some day.

Actually I didn't forget the 4th to 5th gear change, i didn't include it because it isn't used at the strip, But it is on the street! LOL! But i wouldn't recommend power shifting 5th gear.

For me, for some reason, it was always 3-4, after years of pondering why, it's because I'm able to "think" about it longer than the others, 1-2 is over immediately, 2-3 shortly thereafter, and then 3-4 is quite a bit longer, I'll psych myself out thinking "okay, you didn't blow 3rd, got 1 more and we are home free" and sssssssshhhhhhwwwiiinnngggggggg, I'll miss 4th, have missed it and still won races though. LOL

2nd-3rd no question! I cooked my T-5 with this shift! Classic over-extension of the shift fork... I've never had the problem since I installed my beautiful Pro-5.0 (new style).I've all the others,.... almost, and Pro-5.0 feels the toughest!

The Pro 5.0 really helps the 2-3 shift because it's got a stronger spring in it that helps pull it over as soon as it's out of second then slides straight up into third. I think most aftermarket shifters have a similar setup. It's also great because the positive stops give it a much better feel. Also doesn't have any rubber in it like the stock shifter. Have you ever had the boot off and looked at the stock unit?
excellent investment!

I'm in the process of taking care of having to worry about missing gears... should be simple enough with a v-gate shifter and a DR4 Jerico!

I learned how to rebuild my old t-5 because that damn 2-3 shift worked so well with a Pro 5.0 shifter I was always beating on it and eventually broke third gear. Also replaced quite a few synchros in that gearbox...

I'm wondering what that Jerico is going to be like on the street

I love my b&m shifter, just got it, and never been to the track with it yet, it is awesome, i had the stock shifter for the longest time, but also tried a hurst, that one was too short, i didnt like it, i have a mac knob on the ripper, i did this after my last time at the track i missed 4th real bad and revved my motor high, the next day i picked up this shifter, wish i would have done this a long time ago, hope i did'nt hurt my new t-5.

I have a B&M Ripper shifter and love it. It still miss 2-3 every once and a while. I just hope I don't do it when ppl are around cuz my car is so loud, you can't miss hearing it My problem is that I let the clutch out too early when shifting to 3rd. I hate when that happens

i bought a tremec 3550 and made a huge mistake of not buying an aftermarket shifter, about 2 weeks later i was beatin on it and shattered the 3-4 shift fork going into 3rd. with an aftermarket shifter i would say that the 4-5 shift is the hardest, but you really shouldnt even be power shifting 4-5 unless your running a 7.?? gear.

My problem was, i didnt want to get rid of the stock shifter i was so used to it, but at the track i was abusing my t-5, the ripper i have, just feels more positive, from the stops, now im used to it, and i think my t-5 will last longer hopefully,

btw sn95gt19, most near stock mustangs with 4.10 gear have to go to 5th on the track.

2nd to 3rd i'd have to say is my 2nd hardest gear to get into, but i usually hit it. I have a hurst shifter and it's probably no better than stock when it comes to my miss shift rate, but it sure feels like i'm shifting faster. 4th to 5th is extremely hard to hit. I tried going 4th to 5th when i got a ricer flyby by a prelude and he pulled about 3 more cars because i missed 5th 3 times IN A ROW!.....and no i wasn't intoxicated when this happened , just a little peeved that he flew by me (this is before most of my mods, i would have stomped it in a second now).

i had a 4.56 in my 89lx and only topped out about 30ft from the end of the quarter, in 4th gear. i switched to a 4.10 and it was just right, if your hittin 5th at the track, that tells me that you need to do some gear changin.

I talked to people that said they did, and didnt have to go to 5th, tire diameter might effect the ratio that much, i knew a guy that could go through the traps topped out in 3rd with 373 grs, modified car, he got 410's and it is perfect.

2-3 is the most difficult, 3-4 is the easiest.
