Post 4.10 or 4.30's????

I am putting a higher gear in my car and only plan on driving this car maybe once or twice every couple of weeks and at the drap strip. With my mods which do you guys think I should use. I think 4.56 is to big and would I top out by the end of the 1/4 strip pretty fast..Which gear do you think is best?
Thanks

I think I will go with the 4.30's. How much of a difference should that make than with the 3.55's that I am running now in the 1/4??

You have a stock ported upper intake and GT-40 heads on a 347? I think you should spend the money on upgrading those cuz your motor is choking. The more power you make the less gear you need. 3.73 gears would be good depending on the weight of the car.

I am limited on my spending right now and was thinking that the gears would be a good choice..I dont have any idea how much the car weighs..I have the ac all out along with the rear seat. I really want more gear than a 3.73 though.

what size rear tire are u running? This will help you decide the best gear ratio. What size slick are you useing? The taller the tire, the lower the final drive ratio will be. What rpm will u go through the traps at? What RPM does your motor make the most power?

A combination of desired RPM and tire size will determine the best ratio for your combination.

3500 rpm? I think your combination needs some work, but if your making power at 3500, you should be shifting at 3500, so you better stick with some 2.73's for your gear ratio.

I use the 410s and i love them! I run a 16in tire also. you will definatly need some wider tires i cant hook until 3 most of the time but i like that when i am on the street turn alot of heads but if you know how to feather the pedal you can stop the whell spin. just my o2cents

I agree your 347 would greatly benefit from a good breathing intake. I am currently running 26" tall tires and 3:73's I shift at 6200. I hope to get into the 11's as it sits but I am going to 4:30's and a 28" tall tire which will better fit my Anderson cam. With the 4:30's and 28" tall tire I will go through the traps around 6300rpms.

Hows the suspenison on your car? If it doesn't hook with the 3:73's the 4:30's are even going to make it worse, why not get the power you have to the ground first. Whats it run now? Did you get your cooling issues fixed?

I havent had it to the track yet..I have been getting all the bugs out of it and was wanting to get my new mass air meter and throttle body before i went..i got those in monday though!! i am afraid to take it to the track because of the issues i posted about it not starting back up sometimes. I got the heating issues taking pretty well care of..I drove it all around town and would stop and talk to friends and everything and it never got over 210..i was shocked..I seem to get pretty good traction..I will be running slicks when i go to the track and i figured slicks would take care of alot of the spinning that happens on the road..
