build me an engine!
Assume you are starting off with a stock 88 5.0 HO (non mass air)
(okay mine is going to need a rebuild soon so I figured what the heck!) I have decided on the following up grades: Cobra upper/lower gt40 heads what cam should I use? what rebuild kit? what compression ratio? (9:1 or higher) what else should I do? please keep in mind I want to keep the car a 5.0 (not stroke it) and I want something that is very streetable, not too clunky thankx ------------------ 88 Stang GT Cobra Every option but leather 10 speaker 440 watt system Blue/Grey with grey interior K&N air filter, black outs, & no air |

well if your gonna stay NA the Cobra intake is perfect, I'd consider either AFR165's or TFS heads instead of GT40, as for the cam, F303 maybe? get some 1.6 roller rockers for sure and make, i wouldnt go any higher than 9.5:1
if you are gonna rebuild it then you will need to bore it .030 over, this will take your displacement to 306ci, still a 5.0 though, depending on how radical of a cam you go with, you may have to convert to mass air, its not hard to do, i did it recently just to get rid of a small surge in my idle, i only spent a total of $150 to do mine with a 75mm Pro-m meter that i got used for cheap good luck with it ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, BBK headers, off-road H-pipe, flowmasters, subframes, 65mm TB, March ram air ,MSD coil, U/L control arms, 155lph f/p, Crane Adj.FPR, Nitto drag radials, best 1/4--> 13.76@101.4 on a 2.17 60ft |

what is the B303 cam like, I was reading and the GT 40 engines from ford all have that cam,
also would I be able to use 24# injectors with a s.d. engine or would I have to convert to mass air? recalibrate my computer ect... thanks |

The B303 is a higher rpm cam than the E303 with more duration 224*@.500 vs 220*@.500 for the E303.
The B303 seems to respond well to 1.7:1 roller rockers, but I don't think unless you do a heavy port to the GT40p's you'd need that. Keep the combo matched, and the wild cams and heads out of the equation and your speed density system will do just fine with you adjusting the fuel pressure. Until you hit 350hp, you will not need 24lb injectors. If you get there, again, just adjust the fuel pressure and SD will run fine with them. |
