bypassing the smog pump

What happens if you bypass the smog pump pulley but do not remove the pump itself? Will this in any way hurt my car? I do not have cats and obviously an not concerned with emissions. I will eventually remove it, but, I just want to bypass it for now. Thanks.

Absolutley nothing will happen!

The smog pump only draws about 1/2 a hp at most times, so it doesnt really make too much sense to bypass it unless you're going to take it off altogether. I think march makes a mounting kit to take your alternator and gives you an idler. That assembly is heavy, you'll see some weight savings!

My original answer would have been something like: Your cats will run hotter and they will clog a bit faster. But since you dont have cats, why the heck are you still running an air pump, now that I think about it.

Rip that **** out!

Rip out the cross over behind the cylinder heads and put 2 bolts into the holes in the back. Splortch the bolts with rtv silicone and they will stay put. You'll love how much cleaner the engine bay looks
