Question 347 questions?

I called coast high today and talked to them about their kit and they said that the wrist pins on the pistons are off set so that the piston does not side load. The pistons oil ring is also moved down a little so it does not intersect the wrist pin for better oil control.
They said the design provides more torque and longer engine life.

Is all that they said true and does anyone recommend this kit?

I need opinions fast as I will be buying one of them tomorrow.

Thanks

I have a Coast High 347 in my car and it is an excellent motor. Since I needed the block and all, I had them do the crank, pistons, rods in the block. This gave me the opportunity to see the work they did and the parts. They definately do excellent work and the parts are top quality. I have about 7000 miles (somewhat of a daily driver) and have experienced NO oil loss or burn (and I am using Mobil 1 synthetic). And trust me, my car aint driven easy. I have been to their shop a few times and they have a nice setup and do good work (one of their builders also makes power brake boosters for the classic stangs - Trans Am Racing). I've had NO problems with the motor or the customer service there. I had many questions (before and after purchase) and they always took the time to help me out. If you have any other questions post em here and I'll try to keep an eye on it.

gp001, how much stronger does the motor feel than say a 302 and do you have any 1/4 mile times?

How many rpm's do you shift at?

Well, I'll put it this way I don't have any times yet (still perfecting the setup on the car). Bare in mind I have one of the "milder" stroker cams. It F'in screams compared to a regular 5.0 (or LS-1, or ...). The car accelerates so hard, even from the roll, that without my traction bars I could stomp the throttle and squat the body into the tires (with 5 leaf rear leaf springs). As you can see by my signature it's not because of lack of quality parts. I am more than pleased with the quality I got from Coast High.

Sweet!

That helped me make up my mind.

Tomorrow I am calling them up and ordering the kit.

Thanks.

BTW: What compression are you running.

I intend on buying a CHP 347 kit as well. Very soon in fact. Hey gp001 do you want to go to Famoso with us on the 22-23rd? See the post in street racers corner if you want to go. Or shoot me a personal message here.

Fastang,
I don't know if I'll be done with the conversion to 17's. It's a real pain in the AZZ. On the 66 there aint a lot of room! I have only purchased (2) 17x8's with 4 3/4" backspace so far I am finishing polishing them today and taking them to get clear powder coated (so I don't have to clean them every day). Then I am having my (2) 235/45's mounted (these are biggest I can put up front). I am going to use those to judge what size to go in the rear. I need to see if I can go with a 5" backspace and squeeze a bigger tire in there (245, 255). I may need to change my rear springs as well (Arrrrrggghhh). Then, after all that, I need to see how bad traction is. I don't think I'll be able to make this trip, but look forward to going with you guys soon. I also have planned a C-4 to Richmond 6 speed swap pretty soon so I'll be watching for anoucements in the Street Racer forum. That way I hope I won't be in the middle of another project for the next trip.
Thanks for the invite

Thanks to every one who helped me decide on which stroker kit to get and for any opnions or replys.

I ordered the one from coast high and went with the 347 stroker with 4340 lightweight I-beam rods, 4340 crank, 11.0-1 compression flat top forged pistonsand a main stud girdle.

I should have it together in two weeks.

I can hardly wait I haven't been this excited about something in a long time.

LOL; I might have to think about that.

So you are getting rid of the c4?

Why?

I cruise with a lot of vette & camaro guys, all with over drives. My car is the fastest, but on the freeway its hell (high RPM). Not to mention the much lower first gear and the lower power loss to the rear. I don't just drag race the car. I also autocross, and they have "mountain cruises" here in So-Cal. Vipers, vettes, supras, Stangs, etc.. cruisin the canyons. My buddy did a similar swap on his 78 vette and the Richmond 6 speed is awesome. So I am going with that. I am currently trying to fabricate a hydraulic clutch setup also. Should be interesting.
