A/C problem
I recently had a new motor put in my car. my air conditioner worked befor. the night i brought the car home after the new motor was put in, it didnt work. I asked him if he forgot to recharge the system, he said that he didnt have to discharge it, he just lifted the whole unit up and out, hows that sound?. I asked him if he could look at it and see what was up with it, he said it would cost me more money to get it fixed. Obviously it is omething that he did. I checked the pump on it, when i turn the ac on high, the clutch doesnt even enguage on it, ya know, the lil "click" that ya hear. I was wondering if there might be something simple that i am overlooking, or any possible solutions you could see. i dont see any unconnected wires, but of course i might be looking in the wrong place.
Thanks a lot Oh, also when i am taking off from a dead stop, or going into reverse, i sometimes hear a grinding sound comming from the back of the car. er maybe not a grinding sound, more like the sound that a wood floor makes when ya step on it and it creeks. does this mean that my rear end gear is goin bad? |
check the plug on the side of the compressor maybe it unplugged, or they are pressure sensative so if the pressure is under a certain point the compressor wont turn on

That was actually one of the first things i did. i Turned the motor on and wiggled it, and held it down really hard to make sure it was making contact.

How long before the swap did you actually use the A/C? It may be an o-ring dried up and the refrigerant leaked out.
But if you're talking about a short time before the swap then I can't see putting a new motor in and not disconnecting the A/C. The high pressure line runs right over the engine, doesn't it? The way I see it one of three things happened: 1) You have a slow leak which finally dropped the pressure too low 2) He disconnected the A/C without discharging, venting all the refrigerant into the atmosphere 3) He managed to push the compressor and lines out of the way without disconnecting them and cracked or punctured a line in the process. a/c compressor
When I had my motor rebuilt, I got the freon discharged. My compressor sat for about a month while the engine was being rebuilt & I was doing some painting & cleaning up of the engine compartment. When I got the new motor back I hooked everything up and the a/c didn't work. Apparently there is this yellow stuff that leaked out of it while it sat for that month. The thick yellow stuff is a type of lubricant for the internals of the compressor. So my bearings were seized up, plus the system wouldn't hold freon. It had a small leak, probably from a bad o-ring. So I ripped it all out and put on a March a/c eliminator kit! :D

make sure he has the low pressure switch plugged in on top of the reciever drier. if it is, check the fuses. they may share a fuse, so read the owners manual. if the connector is plugged in and the fuses are good, jump the LOW side pressure swithc with a paperclip while the care is of with the key on. If you see the compressor clucth engage, then your out of refridgerant or the WOT relay is bad for the A/C. Do not try to jump the connector while the car is running. You still dont know if there is any refrdgerant in the system. if there isnt any, then most likely their wont be any oil in the system either. This will seize up your compressor. You can normall test an A/C system if you know if it has some refriderant in it or you know what the mechanic did. Since you dont, make sure the key is off and go from there.

go buy a 3 dollar test light and check if u have power at the connetor on the a/c clutch(make sure its turned on) if not take a paper clip and cross the connector on the pressure switch, if u get power after u cross the pins on the press switch than u dont have enough pressure for ur pressure switch to turn on
but if u have power at the a/c connector right away than u have clutch probs. but before anything check fuses cheap trick i learned from working on so many |
Don't gorget to check that power is getting throught the wide open throttle (WOT) relay - mine had a loose/burned connection on the WOT when I got my car.
