A/C Questions

86GT 5spd, HO 5.0

The A/C clutch doesn't engage, hence no A/C. There is some voltage going to the pigtail that hooks directly to the pump (about 2 volts), is this normal? I have unhooked the pigtail and bypassed it with two wires (car running) directly from the battery--still nothing. Fuses are fine.

Is the clutch fried, or could something else be wrong? Does anyone have a clutch or complete A/C compressor for sale?

Thanks,
Jeremiah

I have a complete A/C system I pulled off my 1989 with 32K original miles. Worked like new when removed (hardly ever used it, so finally removed it).

Try this

Turn the AC on, lift the hood, and push the disk on the front of the pulley for the AC. Spin while you push it in and try not to hurt yourself. It should take off and work fine. At least it worked for my car. It used to have to be started that way once in a while, but now it works like new. Funny how things fix themselves sometimes......

Drudis--

Will you seperate with the compressor only? How much do you want for it?

I will try to 'jump start' the A/C, hopefully it works.......hopefully I don't lose any body parts.

Thanks,
Jeremiah

Sounds like a symptom of low freon, did you check it? Does it have a sight glass?

Barrfight 05-13-2002 10:39 AM

well......

Did it work?

Comatose 05-13-2002 11:21 AM

No.......it looks like the clutch is shot. Is the clutch difficult to replace, or am I better off replacing the entire compressor?

The clutch is pretty easy to replace. On my 92, the clutch went out. I replaced it pretty easily. just make sure you rent an a/c clutch puller from autozone. Good luck.
