C4 with 3500 stall or 5spd
 

I was wondering which would be the best way to go on my transmission. I only drive it to the track on thursdays and to the street races on saturday night so i'm not worried about high RPMs without an overdrive.I'm talking strictly performance when racing. Am I going to see better performance with one or the other. I know automatics are more consistant, but is there any other advantage.

Automatics with the right stall and gearing will out 60' a standard transmission every time, both with same engine. The auto with a stall gets the torque to the ground!

Yeah a properly tuned auto usually runs the 1/4 a bit faster than a manual. You can have violent launches with a stick though, those are always cool.

Ok next qeustion.How high of a stall should I get? Is 3500 to high? I'm spraying off the line so I don't want the tires to break loose because I got too high a stall converter.

Gotta make it hook! The higher the stall the better your 60' if you get it to hook. If it's for strip only I'd go with a 4000 converter. If you drive it on the street I'd go with a 3500 converter. You can probably go with a 9" converter. That's what I have in my 65 stang and it stalls about 3700rpms(flash). I can get away with it on the street yet it still launches pretty good. Sometimes it overheats the tranny though, if I drive it too long.
