![]() Well ive got a 82 f-150 that im parking and taking everything out of. Its got a 351 and a C6 behind it. The 351 is going to make its way into the shop for a complete rebuild over time but im wondering if i should put the c-6 behind the engine in my car. Ive got a 302 built up to just a hair over 350hp at the flywheel and all Ive got for a tranny right now is a 4 cyl T5. From what im hearing the c6 will fit in without a problem. Does anyone know if it will or wont? Should i do it? If i do it will be getting a nice high stall and ill throw in a shift kit.

![]() I know the c6 is a beast, a c4 is a good 2 1/2 tenths faster in the 1/4 due to less rotational mass.

![]() The C6 will fit just fine. When I put mine in I used a new Ford Tranny crossmember. with it slid all the way to the back the trans mount bolts end up the the middle of the slots on the crossmember. You will have to shorten the driveshaft and use the front yoke from the truck with a hybrid ujoint (FRPP from summit for $25).
Everyone will tell you to go with a C4 cause its faster (which it is) but if its a street car where $$ and durability is an issue, the C6 is great. They will take a lot of abuse in stock form. I did the same thing you are doing, got a free working C6 from a truck, put in a 3000 RPM stall converter and a shift kit (as well as a pan with a drain plug and temp gauge sender) and slapped it in. I have very minimal clearance near the pan with the Cleveland swap headers but that won't be an issue with a Windsor.

![]() I would personally rather get a C4 for your car because they're lighter, smaller, and as mentioned less parasitic drag. A C6 would be overkill, you're not making enough power to kill a C4 in decent condition. You will definately feel a power loss through a C6 compared to a C4, but if you really want a C6 in your car it is a good trans and will last with abuse (so would a C4, though).
It's all up to what you want to do. Good luck,

![]() I have beat the piss out of the c-4 in my street car and its still going great. We run a c-4 behind a 428 that is putting out 600 rwhp in one race car and it holds up great. Granted it isnt a stock c-4 but it also takes a hell of a beating with a 5000 stall and 4.11 gears behind a torque making alcohol injected big block.

![]() Well i forgot to mention that im bolting on a nitrous kit that goes up to 200hp and the biggest thing i like about using the c6 is that its free and strong as hell. I would love to go with a well built c4 but right now im in the middle of a paint job and id rather spend the money on paint and just use what ive got.
