![]() First off, Should I have a cam tailor'd to my stall speed and gearing ? or should I pick a cam and then get a torque converter to match the cam ?
My planned combo is as follows : Stock upper, Holley systemax 1 lower, AFR 185cc heads with 58cc combustion chamber, 1 3/4" bbk longtubes, and sitting on the holley lower is a nos bigshot plate jetted for 200 or 250 shot. Also I plan on running 1.6:1 rockers and the stock hydrolic lifters. this will be on a stock 302 bottom end. I plan on using arp bolts on the top end though. I dont want to rev passed 6000 rpm. This wont be a daily driver, mostly the only street driving will be done to and from the track, so I do need a cam that will permit street driving, although I want it to be set up for nitrous use, as thats the way it will be getting down the track. Can someone recomend a good cam to use that i wont have p/v clearance issues with ? I was considering the Comp cams NX282HR which is : 282/292 advertised, 232/244 at .050, .565/.580 lift and a 114 degree LSA. Should I get Ed Curtis to grind me a custom one instead or would an off the shelf cam probably be suited for my applications ? I am planning on running deep into the 10's with that combo. ------------------ Jonathan Cole Silver 89 Notchback 12.404 @ 109 with 60 shot FRPP 3.73:1 Gears B&M Ripper Shifter |

![]() Im assuming you have an AOD since you didnt mention it? Whats with he stock upper and the holley lower? Talk about a mismatch?
Anyway, it doesnt matter if you buy the cam or the torque converter first? Just figure out what you want, and then match it all up. It would probably be easier to pick a cam, then match the converter, since you have your engine almost done, but there no reason you cant get a converter with the stall you want, and then try to match your cam to it, as long as the cam matches the rest of your combo. ps - I like the cam specs you have listed, sounds like a good cam for you. ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT [This message has been edited by Mach 1 (edited 02-19-2001).] |
