![]() Well I just got a tax return from the good old state of california. I wasn't expecting that. Anyways, I have exactly $500 to spend now.
I was thinking either a dry 100-125 shot of NOS or a new cam and new intake. I was thinkin an RPM intake a .530 lift or so cam. I will probably lose some gasmileage though with this and I dont know how much more gain I will get. I was thinkin of shaving the heads at the same time for some more compression. THe question w/ the nos is I want to do it all right. remote opener, timing adjuster and everythign so I can run it all from the drivers seat. What do you guys think I should do? But the nos wil retain all my drivability I currently have when off it, I just dont know how my clutch and rearend will hold. My dream has always been 110mph on motor with 20+ mpg. Sky ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS Heads, E-303, edelbrock intake,70MM TB, 73mm MAF, off road H, headers and 3chamber flows. 12.55@107mph Runs on 87 Octane and gets 24mpg! |

![]() A more aggressive cam will really hurt you gas mileage. I don't think you'll be able to maintain 20mpg with your gears and a hefty cam like that.
Plus with a cam like that on the TFS heads, won't you need to do some serious piston flycutting? You need traction man, not more power. Hehehe, spinning through 3rd would now be spinning though 4th. |

![]() .530 Lift is just right for the TFS heads. It's what I got. If you buy a cam and intake you will have that power all day long. I personally don't like the NOS. I would get a Anderson cam b2 or b3 depending on the rockers you have. I got that cam and it is waiting for a power adder. Those cams are great for SC or NOS so if you get that later you will be happy with that cam. As far as Cali emssions **** call up rick anderson and talk to him about it. I think you get more for you money in the long run with the cam and intake. The nos is great but the refills suck...

![]() hey sky, If you go with NOS and all the trimmings, it is going to run you more than 500.00 My setup cost over $1000 and I still need to add a few things (bottle pressure gauge $40, a purge kit $95, and a spare bottle $150) I really dont mind the refills but you did see the downside last time we went to the track when I "purged" mine
![]() Nitrous is fun but it is not as cheap as everyone thinks it is... the 75 hp kit is around $450 and the stage two kit is around $695-$795 |

![]() Not trying to take over your post Skyman, but I also got about $400 to burn. I'm definately looking at some drag radials and some used rims, but I'm also thinking about some MAC long tube headers.
Well, I guess answers your post will help give me a bit of an idea of what I want to use this money for. ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1.5" MAC full length headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters 8.8" Rear end w/ 3.55 gears (Now that's more like it!!) ![]() Front: 225/60/15 Rear: 255/60/15 Eagle GT II 14 x 4” K&N air filter (getting the Xtreme setup soon) ![]() "Red, thou art my companion. ![]() Sky, if you don't fly cut your pistons you will not be able to go to a .530 lift cam with those 2.02 valves I don't believe, although with the TW it may be possible.
I guess you have the E-brock performer? I don't think you will get much out of a intake swap to the RPM so why not hand port yours yourself and maybe get your hands on one of those MAC intake plenum covers. I know you want more power but what about your rear? If you plan on running those slicks you shopuld think about 31 or 33 spline axles and a good center carrier. That is next on my list. Do you run a Saftey bell housing, that s worth the extra saftey as well. How do the JAZ seats feel on the road? What covers did you get? ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension,S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! |

![]() I emailed a TFS tech guy a while back about max cam lift with stock short block and twisted wedges, and he said that their TFS stage 1 (221/225 @.050, .499/.510 lift) was the biggest you could use without flycutting w/ 1.7 rockers. I'm assuming thats saying that their stage 2 (224/232 @ .050, .542/563 lift/) is the next step up, but I dont know what the limit really is, especially if you have 1.6's

![]() Personaly, I think the answer to your question is how many miles are on your shortblock? Nitrous doesnt build up like a turbo or s/c, its an instant 150 hp slamming your shortblock, and if you havent done anything to reinforce your connecting rods such as stronger bolts. You might just throw a rod. Fords rod bolts tend to be weak. You are already well past your hp per cubic inch mark. I say if you want to keep using that shortblock stay naturaly aspirated. Besides, Your car is awesome and people will lose respect when they see that you are squeezing. Its like all they see is the bottle or something, and your car is WAAY more than that. I was considering a 100 wet shot myself. But I dont have the car you do. Mines not near as mean. I need juice just to keep up

![]() I think that .540 max lift reading refers to the heads' max (valve spring limit, etc) I doubt you could actually run that much w/o flycutting.

![]() Rick- At first I thought the seats were hard and uncomfortable. Then I took off the cover and glued on foam padding. Now actually they are way better tha my other seats. I have a bad back, and I dont have 1 bit of back pain on long drives, EVERY OTHER car I'm in I do. It comes out on my lower back just right, I am really in love with it.
Jesse- I think your right... People will only see the bottle. EVEN S/C seems to be less detremental to you cars "image" so to speak. haha. Anyways... I'd like to stay N/A Maybe I'll just wait for a 351 and pay some bills now. And Yes .540 lift is the max.
