cam lube
I am installing a new cam...
What should I use for lube on the lobes of the cam? Can I just use the ARP moly lube that I used on all the main stud bolts? If not, then what (product, part number, where to get it...)? |
the only thing i have ver used is common engine assembly lube. they even include some in most cam kits. never had a problem. you can pick it up by the barrels at autozone or places like that.

I was told that regular engine oil was sufficient for a cam swap and that assembly lube can actually cause problems with the lifters if you put it on the lobes. Something about the assembly lube allowing the roller on the lifter to slide over the cam lobe without spinning. I just did a swap and I put assembly lube on the journals (or whatever it is that spins in the bearings) and copious amounts of oil on the lobes, and have had no probs. Good luck with the swap.

If I could, I'd just dip the entire engine into a 500 gallon vat of ARP engine lube, but since I can't, I use the in-can brush. Have never had a related problem.
Take care, -Chris |
