Default Cam and Roller combo question.

Hey guys im looking to buy a e303 cam and i was wondering what rollers do you think i should use , was think about 1.7s but
i dont know what brand rollors to get Ford racing, comp, or Crane. also if i get the ford racing which ones do i get, i car is a 86 mustang GT i have hooker longs offroad hp flowmasters, bbk cold air intake no smog or AC, blaster 3 coil and thats about it for performace. is this a good setup to increase power.

Default cam combo

I have the e-cam and crane gold 1.7s in my 94 and it runs GREAT..... idle lopes like a mad man....with the 1.7s it comes to like a 520 or so lift ....great mid range power 1500-6500rpm...later

Unless you modify the pistons I don't think a E cam will clear PV wise with 1.7's. Also have you atleast changed to E7 heads? If you are still running E6's a cam is a waste of time and money.

hey man ii have 3 brand new sets on GT-40X turbo swirl heads so im thinking about put them on, see i was going to drop those heads in and put the cam and rollers in, but are you telling me that the stock pistons those rollers wont clear it.

Correct, 86 and earlyer shortblocks had flat topped pistons with no valve releifs. You either have to flycut them or swap in 87+ pistons. Another easy option is to pick up a used 87+ shortblock for like $200.

Actually i think it might have only been the 86 block with the flat top pistons, ive seen a few of the carbed ones pulled apart and one of them was my own and it had valve reliefs and i was running a comp cams cam with 512lift and then 1.7 roller rockers and it worked fine.

Roadwarrior you indeed maybe right. Regardless though I know for a fact that 86's have flat tops so it will be a no go without a flycutting tool.

Agreed...Ford did weird things in '86.
