cam selection

Hi there.... I need to make a choice on a cam so I'd like some input. And please give me a reason for your specific choice. It'll make a lot more sense than just part numbers..... Also, I can't do a custom grind so that's really not the answer I'm looking for.

So here's what I have:
new 1990 stock bottom end
Edelbrock Performer (1.90/1.60) heads
1.7 roller rockers
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Holley 650 dp carb
1 5/8 equal length headers
2 1/2 Mac Pro Chamber with Flowmaster 40 series
Jacobs ignition
T5 and 3.73 gears
K and N

I want a car that doesn;t have to hit 7000 to make power, I want low end grunt and I want the agressive idle. Any suggestions would be great. Tks! :)

Since custom is out of the question for some reason you might try one of the FM's...Probably a F-303...

Custom is not an option simply because of the cost. By the time it gets to Canada, the price literally doubles. That's a sad fact when you're trying to build a car!

Wow

That is a shame 85coupe,because you know exactly what you want in a cam and where you want it to make power.

Well I will offer my 2 cents,so here goes. Comp Cams Extreme Energy cams have a lot to offer, the XE282 is a pretty popular cam right now,the power band is 2000-6200rpm,the duration is 232/240 so it is a pretty stout cam,it has helped to make over 400hp in 302's and it is the cam FRPP uses in their 392 stroker longblock,MM&FF did a head change where the only thing they did was put AFR 185 heads on a 392 and made 537hp. Richard Holdner's articles are usually pretty accurate so I think that is legit, the heads were also milled for 10.2 compression.

Crane,Lunati,Crower,Isky, and Ford Motorsport offer good cams also.

Man that is too bad you can't get a custom grind for a good price without paying out your you know what, you might want to give J&P a call maybe the DaSilva brother's can hook you up with something, they know how to make hp the old-fashioned way and with giggle gas and turbos.
