Post can the 87 pull the 69?

I am going home to nebraska next month and I need to get the 69' back with me somehow. I was wondering if I could pull it with the 87', maybe with a towbar. The aod will be gone by then. Thanks.

Cool

Personally,I would advise against doing this.

I would find another, more safer way of transporting your classic 69' Mustang..

Find a friend with a truck and trailer. If you don't have access to a trailer, find a place that rents trailers. This would be alot safer for both you and the 69'

Thumbs down

Can it technically do it? Yes. You've got enough hp to pull it no problems.

Here are the problems you will have though.

Lack of structural integrity (the Mustang had an optional towing package from Ford, rated for 1000 lbs max.) Your car was never meant to do heavy hauling, and it's unibody shows it.
Brakes, or lack thereof. Your car was never meant to brake for itself (shitty braking system on a sports car) let alone another vehicle!!
Mounting of the towbar, where can you actually put the dumb thing?
Police: If they see you pulling that stunt you can bet they'll have tickets all over your *** , man.
My advice? Rent a car trailer, and have a buddy with a truck (or rent that too) help you go to get it.

Otherwise, is the '69 street legal? Get a ride with a buddy down there, and drive it where you are going.

Like Unit says, it's not advised. You'd be towing a 3500 lb. load with a 3,300 lb. car. You'll have a lot of control problems, and I think the engine will likely overheat going up a grade. Forget going down a grade, those brakes would be toast! Fox cars were never designed to do this work.
