Can i lock a fiberglass hatch?
Do they make a fiberglass hatch that uses the factory latch and lock. Somebody backed in to my car in a parking lot and dented my hatch and i rather replace it then put a ton of body filler on it so i was thinking about a fiberglass hatch. But this is my daily driver so i dont want a pin on hatch and i want to be able to lock it. Who makes the best fiberglass hatch? How much weight will i save by going to a fiberglass hatch and lexan rear window?
thanks for the help |
BUMP!
I would like to see some responses to this as well as my hatch is rusting out and I would rather replace it w/ a weight saving Fiberglass hatch than have to repatch and repaint until the whole hatch is fiberglass anyways.

I know cervinis makes a fiberglass hatch, and its probably the best one on the market. Try sending them an email asking if it can be locked.

Yes they latch just like the stock ones. Several companys make 'em. Check out an issue of MM&FF or 5.0 for dealers. I have a hatch that's made of ABS plastic. It mounts and latches the same as stock, and unless you look from the inside you can't tell it from a stock one. The ABS is very light. The fiberglass ones are a little heavier but still much lighter than a stock one. I used the stock glass in mine, but lexan will work fine. Never have to worry about rust! ;)

Who makes a ABS plastic hatch all I have purchased have been fiberglass and I would always rather have plastic than fiberglass.

Speedytang....I got it at a Motorsport dealer in S.C. about 10 years ago. I'm not positive, but it may have been Lumberton Ford Motorsport. It's held up real well, but it does rattle some on a bumpy road.
