Can we live without the IAB?

It seems to be just a choke device. I was having high idle bet. shifts and when i'd come to a stop, so I took it off. Then I would have trouble keeping it running when cold(like choke) until warm(then it ran fine). The other day I read a post describing how to fix this, so I put the stupid thing back on and the high idle went away... somewhat, it drops rpm when coming to a stop (good), but between gears it stays at whatever rpm i'm shifting instead of dropping. I think i'll take it back off, but will this affect the dyno tune & chip i'm getting soon?

I am having the EXACT problem on MY 90 LX w/ T-5. I do know that what the IAB does is while you are at idle, the butterfly on your TB is closed, it lets air bypass the Tb completely. Did you disconnect the IAB plug when setting your idle?? I replaced my IAB and it did not help at all. I wish I could help more, but hopefully somebody can help us both!!

I don't have mine hooked up. It is a little rough when I start it cold, but as soon as I warm it up it is fine. I know that most of the race cars that I saw don't have it hooked up either.

If you your idle falls slow you might want to clean the connectors on the back of the upper intake. They are black and white and are attached to the upper intake, plugs and put diaelectric grease on em and hook em back up and see if that' your problem. I've heard a lot of people say that helps alot, my car had the same problem, but my idle was also higher at a stop and it was a bad ECT sensor, so just my $.02.

Thanks, i've decided to put the block off plate back on. I have one on the egr also. Both have been on for about a year with no problems, but I thought I would try to fix it since I read that post.
