Post Roll Bar for Street Driven 92 LX Convertible

I am looking to put in a roll bar - mostly for safety, but also to stiffen the body. I don't want to climb over door bars every time I get in, but I could easily live with the fixed harness bar. Is a 4-pt bolt in (like AutoPower) good enough for a fair-weather driven car - or should I get a six-point? Also, I thought I saw a six point with the front arms running BELOW the edge of the seats...Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks John, the Kenny Brown SUPER STREET CAGE must have been the one I saw before. It looks like they start at $499 though...oh well, what better place to splurge than a ROLL bar!

Thumbs up

I said it's for safety, so get a NHRA-approved 6-point rollbar. The chore of jumping over the bar is alot easier than being paralyzed from the neck down or killed if your car flips over. Think about it.

i would suggest a 6 point, simply because it will provide signifigant chasis stiffening, a 4 point will do little. if you don't want to have to climb over the bars, then get a 4 point, at the track i go to (as well as most others) if you have a vert and run faster than 13.99, you have to have a helmet and 4 point.

I have the Kenny Brown and am happy with it. I went with it mostly for access to the back seat as I still have young ones that ride back there. A NHRA legal cage has to have a horizontal bar behind the seats making getting into the back seat a bit of a chalenge, especially with a convertable.

The way I looked at it was, any roll bar is better than none. It stiffened the car and I have at least a little more peace of mind that it's safer... and the kids can get in and out without me having to put the top down!

Yes, I agree safety is my primary concern - but I want to make a tradeoff between safety and convenience. The Kenny Brown six point with lower bars looks like the best choice for me. I don't race at the track - so rules compliance is not really an issue either. Dave - great looking GT! Your website has the exact type of pics I was looking for. I was worried the roll bar would ruin the top-down appearance - not at all!
