Car Wont Rev Past 3500RPM?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!

My Car Wont Rev Past 3500, But I Can Run It Up To 5000, Then When I Shift, It Boggs.

In Neutral It Goes to about 3500rpm & Then PUT-BOOM-BANG.

Everyone Who Has Driven It Says Its A Fuel Problem, So What Do You Think? How Can I Fix This???? Will I Hurt My Motor If I Race It As Is This Friday? Should I Just Stay Under 3500 While Driving Until I Get This Fixed???

Thank You

Kris.....

NEVER RACE WHEN YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS OR BE PREPARED FOR THE CONSEQUENCES

If you have a fuel pressure gauge, what does it say at idle, and what does it say at 3500. It could be your fuel pressure regulator. When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Rick is a wise man. NEVER race it if something is wrong. What's the point? If it won't rev past 3500 you're not going to win a race anyway. Why take a chance of more damage?

I agree, check your fuel filter. Sounds like you're leaning out under load. Fuel filters are cheap and easy to replace. Might as well do a full tune up (new plugs, cap and rotor, plug wires) if it's been a while. Good luck.

That's a pretty major problem, Bowtie. The very first thing I would do is check the codes. I wish EVERYONE would do this before even posting a question. It's such an easy thing to do and can tell you a lot.

Did you remember to put the SPOUT jumper back in after checking timing? Is your distributor loose, possibly? Tell us what you've done to the car so far.

I can't even believe you asked if it was okay to race or not.

New fuel filter, new waterpump, new oil, new sparkplugs, new alternator.....

HOW DO I PULL CODES?????

Did you get moisture in the distributor? My car has done that before and it was from a couple little drops of water in the distributor.I wiped it clean and it ran fine again.
