carb or EFI?
I have a 351W with the stock 5.0 computer. The last owner said he went through like 5 different chips & it still runs funny. It idles at 1000rpm, is that normal for a 5.8? If I turn it down, it stalls. I was thinking of converting to a carb, but I'm also considering a programmable computer. Which way should I go? Whatever way I go, I want the engine to run properly so I can get the most performance out of it. I don't want to send my car to a shop so they can burn a chip there because I'm always going to be upgrading the car, & I don't want to be getting new chips all the time.

I'd go with something like a PMS system or the SDS Injection system offered by Western Motorsports. I think that will allow you the tuneability you want. Carbs are fine and, if tuned properly, can out-power an EFI car. That said I've had nothing but pain in the @sses with my carb. Even when it was running right the driveability changes from day to day with the weather. Those two systems are fully adjustable and I think would ultimately offer you the best performance.

I'd just leave it at the 1000 idle.

go with a carb. it will allow you to keep upgrading without worrying about things. plus its alot cheaper and you will make more power with the carb right away. think about it , spend 600 now and be good for years or keep upgrading the comp and other equipt. for a few thousand. its a no brainer.
