Re: Carb has too much idle hole drilled?
Ok Heres the Thing...Dont Ever use RTV on any Head Surface...Including The Intake Port Runners.....The gaskets you buy should have a coating on em for when they are torqued down and warm up they seal great.....The end Gaskets I get are made of rubber and have lil saddle like tabs that hold them in place

Re: Carb has too much idle hole drilled?
just thought i would pass this along also- another helpfull thing you can do with that can of brakleen which i didnt happen to see mentioned here or may have missed it , is if the motor does have a vacumn leak by spraying it lightly around hoses - vacumn lines - gasket mating areas etc.... while motor is running , if there is a leak you will notice a change in idle or way motor runs almost instantly ... old timers used this trick for ages to find vacumn leaks althought dont get crazy with massive amount of spray a little light spray goes a long way to helping pin point any leak areas

Rtv
Most of the folks I know use RTV only on the water jacket areas of the intake gasket. Use of a thick bead of RTV instead of the intake end gaskets is recommended. That's the way everyone that I know does it.

Re: Carb has too much idle hole drilled?
Thanks everyone!
PKRWUD mentioned the brakleen actually. It turns out that the 600 DP COMES drilled from the factory says ricky from holley. The vacuum is still lower than before ....like 16-17 at it's peak but it idles great anyway. Funny thing is....if I open the secondary idle side at _all_, the motor wants to die. any turn yields a drop in rpm's and vacuum. I'm getting some MAC 1 5/8 auto longtubes cause I'm sick of mangling knuckles on shorties. The studs fell out on the pass side and I cant get it to seal. I even used RTV on it but no good. I have a bassani X-pipe with removable front sections that slide out and are clamped. I'll just slide them out, hack them shorter to mate with the lungtubes. That project might wait for a while and I'll just drive around with the chopper sound. Thanks all for helping out! Go sox! :D |
