Post changing thermostat

I'm having trouble getting it to seal. Any suggestions on how to keep the thermostat from dropping down out of the groove while trying to get it tightened?

Cool

put a very small amount of silicone in the groove, it helps hold the thermostat.....

put the thermostat into the housing and silicone the gasket on and let it dry for about 10 min..this should allow you to get it into place before it falls out.

i just did this last weekend, i set the housing upside down and set the themostat there then just a bit of silcone then the gasket then more silicone and let it set for about 5- 10 minutes then i could set it in there and not have it fall out. i used a 180 degree robertshaw and my stang runs just below that on a 95 degree day here.
