cheapest harmonic balancer(non autozone)
I think my balancer is due for replacement, i am getting a vibration at a certain engine speed, i replaced u-joints ect....fixed for a while, now a different vibe i can feel through the shifter,
my clutch seems to be acting funny, but noticed it smelling like burned clutch at the track, today i found oil all around the belhousing, would oil contaminated clutch make it vibrate? im sure it would make it slip, therefore causing the burnt smell... now to the original subject, my balancer is 1 yr old, got it from advance, i hear they dont last long in performance applications, is the summitt s.f.i the cheapest high performer? sorry so long.....thnx for any advice. oh yea, motor mounts (rubber) are cracked, but the engine stays fairly stable when i rev it? |
check your water pump as well. I had one that the bearings were going bad and it caused a vibration too. You could try taking off the serpentine belt and running it for a moment to see if it goes away. You will have no power steering of course so be careful.

I'm switching my to 28.2 in-oz balance with my new motor so I've got to sell my Romac 50 in-oz balancer. I wanted to get $175 for it. Its $319 new and is in great condition. Let me know if you might be interested.

Hmmm, I don't know, but from where I stand, it still sounds like it could be your driveshaft. Why don't you check the U-joints again.
Then again, have you checked your tire pressure? Also, have you checked to see if (by running your hands around the tires) if there are any bumps or warps on the tires? Start with the easy things first (of course :)). Concerning a harmonic balancer: look at the balancer while the car is idling. It should turn straight with no wobble. After this, if that's fine, shut off the car and inspect the balancer from where it is. Try to look CLOSELY at the rubber seal/ring on it. It should be even ALL the way around the balancer. If the rubber is gone, heavily cracked and rotting, or significantly uneven anywhere on the balancer, it should most likely be replaced. I bought one a long time ago from Ford dealer for a little over $90 (I think) which I think is a great price. |
Thanx guys, well i forgot to mention my u-joints are new, d/s bolts are tight, i checked all transmission mounts, and bolts, the balancer doesnt wobble, but i did notice a little rubber uneven on the balancer.
jeff, i thank you for the offer, but i have an order out for a summitt damper, so you are going to 347 or what?:D and thnx to everyone that helped, it's raining here, so i cant really do anything, but hopefully i'll be up next week, the vibration got worse today, so im gonna park it before damage occurs. everytime i save up enough for heads, something needs to be replaced, tires, clutches ect...lol |
