Post Turning Off "Check Engine" Light

Is it possible to clear the "Check Engine" light by disconnecting the battery, or does this have to be done with a scanner or by the dealership? My light is not on, I am just wondering because it may come on after I install my new H-pipe w/cats.

Yes you can clear it by disconnecting your battery but it will just come back on after a little while. If it's the H pipe that trips it then just pick up a set of MIL eliminators. You shouldn't get one though if your running cats.

Thanks for the info! I have heard some cases where aftermarket pipes with hi-flow cats have set the engine light. Hopefully mine will not! I have heard of the MIL eliminators. What are they, $50 a set? Also does it matter how close the rear O2 sensors are to the cats?

It won't make much of a difference how close they are to the cats. Are you putting high flow cats on? If so, I doubt you'll have any trouble. I have a BBK off road H pipe with MIL eliminators and no check engine light. I bought them through Need 4 Speed in California for about 45 dollars. Took 2 minutes to strap in. Well worth the money to avoid the headaches.
