Check Engline light after O2 replacement
 

Hi,
Last Friday I got my O2 sensors replaced. I was surprised as to what my old sensors were; one was the stock OEM, and the other was a Bosch (both 3-wire). I replaced them with two Bosch (part #13942).

Anywho, since getting them installed, car didn't feel right so I unplugged battery for about 20min to let the computer reset; after that, the car idled like crazy on a few occasions (it died on me twice, and third time it idled at 700rpm for about a minute and then suddenly died). Since replacing the sensors I've put about 90KMS (62 miles), and I think the car's starting to drive better.

So question is, is this normal? How long should it take for the car to break into the new sensors?

You should reset the computer each time you replace a sensor. I had a horrible time with the EVP on mine until I reset it. There's no "break-in" for sensors. They only wear out, and that's every 30K-40K miles for EGOs (theoretically...).

You may wanna check out the corral's tech article on resetting idle on MAF 'Stangs. Click here to find out exactly how to do it. Other than that, just be sure the IAB is clean, and that your EGO connectors are positively connected and there's no exhaust leaks. Hope this helps ya.

Did you check the computer for codes?

If the guys who put in your new O2 sensors got the anti-seize compound on the end of the sensor it can wreak havoc.

I would check the computer first. It's always where I have started when I have had an engine problem and I've never come up against anything I haven't been able to fix http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
