Well.. the shifter looks pretty, and the gears will makes you go faster. I'd go with the gears.

Gears will give you the best bang for the buck in terms of acceleration but are one of the most difficult itmes to install. If you can't do it yourself, gears will cost well over double what a shifter will. Go with the Tri-Ax, they are tough and do not loose their feel. Seems like the pro 5 tends to feel like vague after a while (just replaced one with a Tri-Ax).

how hard is it to put in new gears, i never done it before have you. thanks

I'll do anything.. though from what I'm told gears are one of those things that shouldnt be done by yourself, unless you KNOW what you're doing.. Its not about difficuly, it's about getting it right... I never have done them, so I dont know... it cost me 350 to have mine done...

Hey chunk when you got them done di they put in new seals, shims sort of like an istall kit? because thats what my guy wants to install them 350 and i was thinking its gonna cost me 180 for the gears and about another 90 for the install kit i figured i might as well get them done. thanks alot.

i installed my 3.55s myself and its not hard untill you get down to setting the wear pattern on the gears. that is very important. if you dont get it correct the gears will whine or even break. if you can pull the pumpkin out and buy the gears and shims with new brearings and everything. then take it to a shop to have the gears installed and setup correctly. then just take it home and install the pumpkin yourself. might save a little money and then you can say you installed the gears yourself.

I would have to say gears definitely. I did mine also and it really went pretty smooth. Just be sure your backlash and wear pattern are right before you button it up and drive it. I say go ahead and try it yourself. You will need to get an installation kit with the gears if you wanna do it right.
Good luck, James |
Gears
