Cleaning the Upper Intake

I was reading a topic about changeing the PCV Valve and 90dpscoupe said that he cleaned his intake and the car felt and ran alot better. What does he mean by cleaning it? Do you just soak it in something or spray cleaners inside? Is he talking about the lower intake or the upper intake. This all started because someone needed to change the PCV Valve and screen. I would like your advice about this.

Thanks stangers

I don't know how he did his but I just took mine off and sprayed it out with about 3 cans of carb cleaner untill I could see the metal inside, it was coated on the inside with a bunch black stuff before that.
