Default clunking in gas tank

I have recently noticed, on my 88, that when my fuel is less that half and I go around corners(left or right) I hear this clunking coming from the gas tank but if the tank is more than half or full then it doesn't do it. It just started doing this.
What is that?

My only guess is that the strainer came off the end of the pump and is floating on top the gas. When your tank is mostly full, it may be bobing around in that smaller part of the tank and not making as much noise.

Other than that, it may just be fuel sloshing around.

Will I be able to fix it when the day comes that I need to replace the fuel pump?

There's a fuel baffle that the pump sits in. This metal baffle can come loose. It's only held in my two tack welds which can break quite easily. I ended up repairing mine with jb weld. I drained the tank and allow it to dry then with a stick, I maneuvered the jb weld inside the tank over the previous tack welds. I did this repair a year ago and it's all still holding...
