clutch
As you can see in my sig, my 5.0 is stock. It will be for awhile, I don't have lot's of money because I rent a luxury apartment, have alot of extra's like digital cable/internet, cellphones, 3 cars and my wife barely works, but I will slowly keep upgrading. That said, I need a clutch and am having my local shop of GOOD GUYS @ MPE Racing in Taunton, MA install a clutch for me. They do high quality work and are replacing the pilot bearing and rear main, turning the flywheel and inspecting the crank just to be sure at a cost of $300 + the cost of the clutch kit.
I am going with the HD Ford clutch because I can't afford to spend $500 on a clutch $189 sounded just fine. He likes ClutchMaster. I did want to get the King cobra, but he wasn't convinced that it was worth it. He claimed he had one and also his buddy tried one and it seemed after engaging the clutch following the 2-3 switch the pedal would get funky, like bouncing. So I decided not to go with the stronger pressure plate. What do you think was happening? It sounds to me like the regular heavy duty pressure plate has just enough give to absorb the pressure but with the King cobra pressure plate so stiff, probably translated this right thru to the pedal. What do you think?

i've had a few friends who had the king cobra clutch one of them a 393 stroker w/ a vortech supercharger and they have all liked it and have had no complaints. i would spend a little extra and get a centerforce dual friction i love this clutch setup it hooks up great and is really reliable.

clutch
I second that. I have a dual friction centerforce clutch and love it. It is easy to push in, never gets "mooshy" under hard racing conditions, and lasts for many years!

You have to ask yourself the question - do I have plans to put hp under the hood? If the answer to this question is yes; save up your money and invest in a centerforce dual friction clutch, you'll be glad you did.

A CF/DF would be major league overkill for a stock motor, but the beauty would be that it will last a LONG time. My car isn't stock and my clutch disc looks barely used after 3 years. If you only want to do this once, get the CF/DF.

I have a kk clutch sitting in a box ready to go in, when this rain stops, i'll post on how it holds up, it will be used at the track often, my hd motorsport was hard to push in, had a noisy ToB, and only lasted a yr, im hoping this kk will withstand some hard launching, i didnt have the cash for a DF CF.

I know a guy through the mustang club here that is a master mechanic for Ford and he highly recommends the King Cobra clutch for stock/lightly modified cars.
Later, Nick

I went ahead with the King Cobra just because It's may daily driver and I'm not a baby, but it would be nice to reduce pedal effort.
The only difference between the HD and KK is the pressure plate, that's it, both kits come with the same clutch disc and TOB. We'll see...

Yes, the part #'s are the same on tob, and disk, the pp is different on the kk kit....good, because i have a strong skinny leg, but that hd motorsport is/was too much, people freaked out when they drove my car,
i imagine it was hard on my quadrant and cable, you have to have hercules legs to drive my car in traffic. Besides, i never had a problem with motorsport disk, just dont like the heavy dutyness of the pedal, i dont recomend it, for anyone else that reads this. And like lx509 says, we'll see about the stronger pp.

WOW the King Cobra is awesome!
Don't know about performance yet, gotta put a few miles on first, but just to mention the pedal feel. I can't believe it, it feels like a hydraulic on a geo metro! That's how easy it is to push vs. stock! Very nice... let me get some miles on it before I have a comment about it's performance. Thanks for your replies!

I need to fix my cheap ***. I should have sported the extra 30$ for the king cobra set up. I got the heavy duty motorsport. The good thing, is that I am almost the only one that can drive my car because it is so stiff and difficult to operate. I love to watch the mechanics while getting tires or oil changes stall the car then get pissed off.
However, at times I will drive the thing a few hundred miles a week, through 1 hour of completely stopped traffic each way, and by the time I get out of the car, my leg shakes sometimes from the work out.
