I've got a 351 with longtubes and I don't have any problems at all. I use that one bracket the comes on the cable to bolt to the strut tower. Mine is routed between the headers and the engine. Do you have your cable run through the k member?

Well, I had a speedo cable fire up over header but it was just due to position. If you getting to hot under there, a simple fix is wrap the headers in heat tape or " Heater Wrap ".. It will keep the heat in the header and out of the Trans. That tape works. Its sold almost at any parts stores, summit has some nice stuff though.

Yeah I used to have the same problem, went through 2 cables in a month. But I have the solutiion for you.

Buy some header wrap, and wrap the pipes on the driver side, only need to wrap the pipes that come into contact with the cable. Then I took some aircraft grade fire sleeve and put that over the cable. And voila, no more melted cables.

Works perfect and only cost me 40 bucks CDN, got the fire sleeve for free since I used to work at a place the built air planes.

I mentioned " heater wrap " I mean HEADER WRAP " ... that stuff is the $hit.
