clutch quadrant - easy?

Hi all,

I have learned a big lesson. NEVER NEVER sell your car to a friend. This weekend I get to help him do a clutch quadrant (car's an 88 LX). He says it'll be easy. I say it's gonna suck. Bad. Any tips? (We dont plan on yanking the seat).

Pull the seat. It's only four bolts and it will make this job about 1000% easier. I just did this and it's fairly simple, just a PITA. The quadrant is 2 white plastic pieces located above the accelerator pedal. You'll need to pull the pins on the rods and slide the pieces off. The triangular piece isn't too hard but the smaller spring loaded pice near the firewall is a real pain. I pried the spring part over the rod (or bolt or whatever you call that piece) and slid it off that way. Some people say to just break the pieces out. Once you get the old quadrant out the new one goes on easy. It took me about an hour to get the pieces out, but about 2 hours of swearing and about 18 hours of ignoring it, hoping it would remove itself.:p

I had to replace the quadrant in mine and a friends car and i strongly suggest pulling the seat. You can get work around it but it will make it that much more of a pain. I also suggest buying a solid quadrant with an asjustable cable. That way the installation wont give you a headache. Getting the springs back in is a million times harder then getting them out.

Pull the driver's seat (unless you have a rollbar in the way anyways, DOH!)
I also highly recommend the Forte quadrant. Nice piece and the cable is stock (easily available).
