Cobra Computer in a GT
Realizing there' a problem with the timing curves in a factory '95 GT that amke them ping under load, would swapping the brainbox for a 95 Cobra work? I have access to on from a wrecked '95 and wonder if it is just a bolt in, or if there would be any issues.

Although it will connect right up and fit like the GT EEC your performance will be worse. Number one is that the Cobra processor is intended for 24# injectors and number two is that its less aggressive than the already tame GT processor and it has a speed limiter that kicks in around 93 MPH. If you plan on mods to your car like heads/cam/intake and a switch to 24# injectors it might be okay to use the Cobra EEC along with some type of chip or eec tuning device or maybe even the Extender if you have it (the Extender) modified to work with the Cobra EEC.

A 93mph speed limiter? Must be a crappy limiter since the rated top speed on the 1994-1995 Cobra is 140mph.
I'll agree that the Cobra computer is the worst choice you can make, though. Yes it's setup for 24lb injectors, it has a 7sec delay before entering open loop, it pulls tons of timing between shifts, and it's fuel/timing curves are horribly conservative. If you thought your GT computer was bad.... |
The speed limiter doesn't keep the car from going over 93 MPH. It just pulls even more timing and what not above 93 MPH. At least that's what I've been informed after inquiring about the Extender.
