Post how crazy can you make a stock intake??

im pondering the idea of making a total sleeper over the winter..
i want to build a 347 using a stock intake and get alot from it..i have full acess to a machine shop...i was ganna cut one in 1/2 gut it out and open everything up to accept a 70mmTB(i have one that looks stock)..the lower i was ganna get a system max 1 and port it out..
after i welded the intake back 2gether i was ganna polish the entire thing so people wont see the weld and cut..
i am going to use pretty much all my other stuff i have(heads<paint them black>, cam<will prolly get a smalller on>, exhaust) and it will be in the notch..i am also pluming in my zex kit also on the dl..
so how fast gave people went with a stock intake on motor???i figure the 347 just wants to breath so i was ganna open this thing up to the max

Even with the work you describe you would still be hurting on top end with a modded stock intake because of the long runners. A 347 will naturally make a lot of torque compared to a 302, so I wouldn't want to kill top end hp with a stock manifold.

go to www.extrudehone.com and request a brochure. I ordered one and in the brochure it says that they flow match all the runners (apparently #'s 1 and 5 flow less than the others) and i think it increases flow to over 50% more than stock. Definately worth looking at even though it'd cost about $500. If you can do this at home, i believe that you can really extensively port them if you have the right tools.
If you open up the systemax lower and match the upper to it, i'm sure you could make ALOT of power. Hell, even if you port the sh/t out of the upper and make a mistake you could probably find another used one for under $50. Good luck,

I seem to remember an article on Extrude Hone vs. the GT-40. The GT-40 flowed a little better than the extrude honed stocker. The price was almost the same.

Hey unit, I saw an ad like that and they tested several intakes before and after extrude honing and the stock did flow a little less but had the best runner balance of all the intakes tested. You can port extensively by cutting the intake and if you want to do like mine on my old mustang you can open it up so much in the front that you will have to weld the hole where the bolt goes through in the center. That is a big restriction. If I had to do it all over again I would have done it the same but I would have also had it extrude honed to make it perfect.

I had my stock intakes fully ported. It has plenty of torque but not enough hp. I cant wait to get my new tf or edelbrock intake!

Don't forget to paint your injectors orange if you wan't a real sleeper. It makes me laught to see guys who tell me that they have 400 hp with the stock injectors. Thats the second thing i see after the intake. Good chance!

Down here, is like, the city where everyone loves to run stock intakes, one guy i know was running a ported stocker going 11.3 with a 100 shot, 4.30 grs, i know too much gear, trmec) with ported 69 windsor heads, and much more mods in the motor, he did spend lots of money though on the porting, but i agree with above statements, the topend just isnt like it would be with a holley or tf.
