CODE 34?

What does a code 34 really mean? Is this a valve or sensor or regulator problem?
How to diagnose properly? Could this be a catalytic? problem? The car hesitates down the road with no power when it is acting up.
Thanks for any advice given. 88GT 5.0

When I got my code 34, I had to replace the EGR valve to make it go away.

Code 34 is the egr position sensor.I replaced my sensor but I never rechecked for codes so I don't know if the code went away or not.Try cleaning the egr with a dry metal brush to clean to carbon buildup.

I had put a brand new EGR valve and sensor on the car about 6 months ago. It started throwing a code 34 at me so I grabbed the stock one off the other 5.0 I have sitting in the garage. Code is gone. Damn Pep Boys specials!

Thanks for the replys. I changed the egr valve and it seems to be running ok. I advanced the timing to 14deg and it runs without pinging but it is idleing around 6 to 700rpm's but it is smooth. But when i first start it it will die.starts on the second try and idles good.it has never acted this way before i advanced the timing. Has anyone seen this before?
