Default Code Scanners

Help, I want to buy a code scanner/reader for my 1992 5.0 Mustang GT, but don't want to spends hundreds of dollars. Can anyone suggest a good mid-priced brand for my car?

I think with the 92 you can use a specific jumper and the check engine light will flash like the code reader. This is the cheapest method.

I got my code reader from Walmart for $30 canadian.

Thanks, what brand name scanner did you buy, and do you think it works well?

it is an Equus

never used any others so I can't compare but it seems to pull the codes from my computer just fine.

It's helped me with some trouble shooting

I got mine at wallmart as well, and I believe it was about 30 bucks.. though it reports codes using a series of flashing lights.. can be tough to decipher.. but if you follow the directions youll be all set... it's 30 bucks... sure beats 130, plus it's small.. fits in your glove box... if that's where you wanna keep it

The old voltmeter and paperclip works! Save your money for mods!

I have a Ford code scanner that I no longer need. You dont need a scanner to pull codes, but the book that comes with it is worth the price of admission.

Mine was $35.00,

ill sell it to you for $15.00

e-mail if interested

a jumper wire is the cheapest way if u have a check engine light. If no check engine light, then a jumper wire and a volt meter. If not that i bought my code puller from advanceauto for 35 bucks. It's an actron analog scanner so you ahve to count the flashing lights but its alot cheaper than the digital ones...
