WHY is a 80mm MAF and cold air induction a bad combination??

I was hoping to buy the mac cold air induction and an 80mm MAF and use them together but the guy at ramchargers (where I buy my parts in MI) told me I'm better off buying just the 80mm maf due to the FACT the cold air induction pulls all the air in one section and the bigger MAF wont get an accuate reading so now I'm pissed so please help, thanks for any input

Didn't we go over this on another thread? :D

If you REALLY want the MAC kit.. go for it.

Just be prepared with the information that any bends in front of your MAF could cause drivability issues.

Some people have absolutely no problems and get a small gain.

Some folks have issues and have totally taken CAI kits off their cars...

As I said before, My recommendation is that if you are worried about possible problems, it might be worth it to go with something like the C&L all-in-one kit I showed you before.

Yea so I heard but I just dont like the big rubber intake tube therefore i wanted something else and i'll spend the 180 for looks and i'm buying a used 80mm maf by c&l for half the price of a new one so I'm lost and dont know what to do:confused:

If you really want to spend some time and fix some of the drivability issues iu have seen you can drill a hole on the center of every inside bend not much just an 1/8" to relieve the vacumn the forms at the inside of every bend. Now if you are worried about unfiltered air then you can run vacumn hose from the hole to a hole base of the filter or the cai just after teh filter if it is a hole after the mass air meter though you will need to run to just in front of the trottle body. (I have actually used the pcv vacaumn port in the TB on the fox's). Now all that being said if the actual pipe is substancianly smaller then the mass air then no amount of "custom" work shy of cutting and put a RE on it far enough away from the meter for the air to stabilize (if it were me i would cut to just before the air would the last bend so that you had one bend that was oversized and then a straight piece to actually feed the mass air after) then the sampoling tube won't get a good sample.

If you want the look of the cold air kit than get it. If you want to put in a bigger MAF for more power forget about the CIA. One or both won't net you any big noticible difference ( maybe a little ).

Dont they sell a different pipe i could buy from throttle body to maf??

what I have is the densecharger tb -maf tube and a AMF power stack filter(12 inch had to trim down the pipe alittle to get it to fit)
