Computer chips
Does anyone out there run JMS custom computer chip? Thinking of using them along with a dyno tune setup. Just looking for feedback, good or bad. Thanks.

I do. I had one burned for my old 302 motor, and then re-burned for my new 331.
My 331 idles like a dream and is smooth as slik all the way up to well over 6000 rpms. They seem to be good people. Very willing to work with you and will even re-burn the chip within 30 days I believe for free if you don't like the programs. Just make sure you have all you modifications in front of you when you call. They'll need too know just about everything that you've done from stock. They come with 3 different programs and are a nice setup. I would really like to do the dyno tune w/wide band 02 and custom burn but they're a little to far away for that. :D If you can get a custom burn w/dyno, that would be ideal and the best way to go IMO. Good luck, E |
Thanks for the input. How's your new setup running. What kind of times do you think that you will get? I'm running a 347 with all the usual stuff to go with it and a Vortech S-Trim. Just trying to get everything dialed in. Hoping for high 10's or 11.000's! Thanks again.

Saleenclone.....I just sent you a pm on the JMS chip topic.

mysweetlx----I sent you a pm. Thanks for the reply. Be sure to give me some before and after ET's, please. Thanks.

Hi Guys,
Hope you don't mind me jumping in right now. I have a JMS chip that was burned for my old cam to help me get through emissions testing, which it did do. This summer I put in a much more aggresive cam (equivalent to the Ford Racing "Z" cam in the 393 crate engines) and right now I'm not using any chip at all. I got the car to idle "pretty good" but it loads up at stoplight and sometimes I put it into neutral to keep the idle steady. My question is should I expect extra HP gains if I send the chip back to JMS to get re-burned with the new cam specs?? Will I notice a difference in acceleration?? What do the guys at JMS actually do to the chip for another 100.00 (on top of the 300+ I paid originally) |
Well, I can't answer that at this time, I haven't used a chip at all. I'm hoping that one straighten everything out on my car. What all did you have to change to put the 351 in your car? I was thinking of building another car with a 351. Are you running any accesories at all? The guys told me that even if I change the mass air after they burn me a chip, that it would effect the programing.

Stangroty - it's $80 for the ruburn o a JMS chip, not $100. If your ride is doing ok w/ the new cam and original program, wouldn't bother sending it back to them.
Saleenclone - the most important thing the chip helped my car out w/ was it smoothed out the idle and cleared up some driveability issues I was having. I didn't gain much w/ the chip, about .14 off my ET and gained 1.1 mph on the trap. I really didn't get it as a power adder, just something to manage my a/f and timing etc and take care of some problems. |
mysweetlx, that's what I'm wanting one for, the driveability. Mine wants to surge a little at idle and buck during normal driving and really bucks and snorts when going into boost! When it did go into boost, it detonated really bad, so I shut it down. Haven't run the car hard since. I've only got 258 miles on the new engine. I busted #7 piston on my last engine because of detonation. So, you can see why I'm so leary!!!:D

I had surging idle problems and bucking low rpm starts all the time. For .14 ET improvement and 1.1 mph improvement, would I spend $180....maybe. To fix driveability problems like I had and you have, would I spend $180.....definately (actually I spent $315 to fix this). Let me know what you think.
