Does anyone have any recommendations on rear control arms? Do I really need to replace the factory ones or will they work just as good? If I should replace, should I go with just the lowers or both uppers and lowers?

I don't know too much about 5.0 suspension, but I heard that you should at least change the upper control arms because, at least in the 5.0 Lx, they are the same ones that were used in the 4 cyl. cars. I have a 90 Lx 5.0 but I haven't changed the control arms yet and despite what I've heard I don't plan on doing it real soon. If anyone else knows anything else please reply.

Hey Schizcat, It depends on if you want a soft ride or are you planning on putting some HP to the pavement. If your are put both upper and lower. There are some basic ones you can get a set for about $200 or you can adjustable ones for more $$. Depends on want your wanting to do with the car

I have all 4cyl control arms. I welded a plate on the open side of them, to "box" them for strength. I also intalled poly bushings. I also welded up every bit of the torque boxes.
With a grand spirits, my car has cut a 1.70 60 ft. and as good as 1.54 with a set of 26 x 10 hoosiers. Most people think my car flys, it don't, it just gets out the hole real good. But don't let anyone tell you that stock arms are not worth fooling with. |
Here's what I did, and my car bites like mad! The traction is great on the street when I am playing around:
Cobra uppers (F4ZZ-5500-CA): $20 each from Ford New bushings at axle end: $15 (FRPP M-4050-B, I believe) Poly bushings in lowers, app. $50? The Cobra uppers are about as stiff as the FRPP uppers at about half the price! This is great for the street - not too hard, not too soft. I also added a '98 Cobra rear sway bar that probably adds to this, but it is definitely needed to reduce the understeer! |
