I noticed a puddle of coolant under the car and thought for sure it was tranny fluid or oil. After further investigation I have found it to be antifreeze. I start the car and let it idel for a while and there is coolant dripping from the plate between the engine and bellhousing, just in front of the black plastic plug. Where in the heck can this coolant be coming from? It's definately not oil or tranny fluid! It's also not coming from the hoses in back and dripping down dehind the engine. What gives?

If it's not a heater hose dribbling down around the engine, it's probably a freeze plug on the rear of the engine.

If it's the freeze plug is there any way to stop the leak without removing the tranny/engine to get to it?

Anyways, it's in the same place you mention. It appears to be the hose from my water pump in this picture. It looks like it's from where it goes into the firewall. It stopped for a while but anytime I rev higher, around 5,000 rpm, it starts leaking again. I've heard it's the way it's connected and that it can't take the high rpms. I plan on pulling my engine apart once again over Thanksgiving weekend to fix this. Maybe a simple hose strap will be sufficient. ![]() |
