Coolant Temp Too High???

I replaced the stock guage with an Autometer, and I also swapped out the therm. for a 180degree. When the car is warming up and reaches slightly over 180, the therm works and the temp drops to 180. As it fully warms up, it is creeping up to about 195 and doesn't seem to be dropping much.

Is 195-200 degrees too hot? Why is the temp not dropping if the therm. is working? Could it be the coolant?

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Mike

What shape is your Rad in?? Maybe a good flushing would help. But I really dont think you are running too hot. Now if you around the 205-220 mark then I would start to worry, but 190-200 isn't bad.

A car should run between 200-210*f to run efficiently. so in other words, you're on the low side, no worries.

From the factory a 5.0 mustang comes with a 197 degree thermostat. 195-200 isn't too hot. i have a 180 thermstat and my temp gauge (autometer) runs between 180-185.

I live in GA also, and my car did the exact same thing you describe. You didnt list your mods, but I had trouble keeping mine cool on hot days due to the power I was making, and running a stall speed converter, tranny cooler, etc...

Your temps arent to high, but if its running hotter than the stat. temp. now, you might have problems this summer when its treally hot.

Check and clean your cooling system.
