need help with the family taurus!
Hey guys,
We have a '94 Taurus 3.8 that we bought used and the damn thing's windshield wipers rest at the upright position! What the heck is wrong with this thing, if it's simply a part let me know. That'd be easy to just replace a switch or something!! Thanks

I'm not to familiar with the Wiper systems of the new cars. I can find out though. I'll reply later on tongiht with the answer. I'm familar with the older cars, like my old Stang and my moms 78 Caddillac.

if it's not the switch ,which is probably not it the bracket that controls both wiper's has probably come loose and spun a 180 degree turn ck that first

Try this: Take off both blade assemblys (remove the whole "arm" in other words) and reinstall them so that they are at the base of the windshield. Then try the wipers.
Also, if its possible inspect to see if something is getting in the way of the motors' arms. |

replace the wiper motor. the park swith in the motor is bad. it is most likely not your switch. check the basics first. check your switch, but i have replace tons of Fords that stop in the wiper area when off.

thanks for the replies
best reply yet may be to replace the motor, even though i was told it was replaced already and that didn't fix the problem. i do think it's the park switch.
I appreciate any attempt to answer, but some probably shouldn't give advice... nothing personal, but if the wipers stop in the up position and the first motion they make when turned on is to swivel down, then what do you think will happen if you remove the arm and reattach it at the down position? hmmm-how about rake across the hood of the car, or at least as far as the cowl... thanks again, but i'm glad i had enough sense not to try this one... and the bracket might be the case only if it stops at either the fully extended or opposite position, because then when the motor starts no matter which way it turns the wipers will go the same way, for instance if the bracket stops all the way extended at it's furthest point when the motor turns on clockwise it will start to pull inward pulling the wipers down and if it turns counter clockwise it will still pull the bracket inward, whereas if the bracket stopped at a halfway extension point(with the bracket vertical) and the motor turned clockwise when it was started the bracket would push the wipers up and if it turned counter clockwise when started it would pull them down. so i have to look at the stop point of the bracket, but just thinking about the last explaination leads me to believe that that isn't the problem because anyone with the backwards wiper problem in the past was probably caused by a switch failure and not some knob reattaching the bracket the wrong way, but i'll let you know what happens.....and thanks again
