COWL HOOD...which one to get??

I wrecked my baby and she has to go to the body shop on July 11th. The shop is going to put a cowl hood on for me, but I have to order it. I need one that fits well and has a decent finish so they won't charge me a lot of extra labor charges. Cervini's has a 2.5" for $379, but some ABC Company or something like that has 2.75" for $279. Anyone have any opinions??? Josh

P.S. I want a bolt on one, not a lift off.

Well, a common theme with hoods is "you get what you pay for"

I've heard no complaints on the expensive Cervini hoods, but I have heard a few complaints on the cheaper hoods at say Cincinatti Composites, but I heard that CC was also improving the quality of their hoods. Design Concepts sells hoods too, but I don't know bout the quality. In any case, CC is probably the cheapest priced hoods.

i was looking at design concepts as the supplier of my future cowl hood but was kinda skeptical about their quiality, UNTIL yesterday, i talked to a guy that has a 4" cowl hood from design concepts on his car, i saw it and it is awesome, he didnt have to trim it at all and the fit and finish of it are great, he said the only problem he has was he had to lower the factory latch on the front end of the car, other than that its great, now i know i will be buying one from them in the near future for sure

I paid $300 shipped to my door for a 3" cowl from Design Concepts. It looks pretty good, but my front end is out of whack. I bought the car wrecked and it still needs a little work before I get it painted. I have a friend with the same hood on his car and painted. It looked great.

One thing I really like about the hood is that it is closed on the end. No need to open it up for all the neighborhood animals to climb in and build a nest when you are fuel injected. ; )

Here is the only picture I have of the entire car...It was raining and dark out...One of these days when I get it painted I'll snap some more.

I love my 4" Cervini's fit and finish is great, I bought my Saleen Style wing from Design Concepts and the fiberglass was thin in a few spots and had to be fixed by the shop who painted it.

Rick...Did you take your fog lights out or does that have something to do with the ram air listed in your sig? From the picture it looks like something is in the drivers side light, but the passanger side appears empty.

Thats the Turbo http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif....just joking not yet atleast. Yeah thats where I hooked my Ram Air up, after a ground hog decieded to take out my nice polished stainless steel one I made that mounted under the air damn. The other Fog light hole has a polished disk in it to fill the hole up, looks nice.

Don't mean to pull attention away from the original post, but Rick 91GT, that is a REALLY nice car.

Fox Body- Thanks http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

quick89gt- Are you stuck on a regular Cowl hood? I also like the 2.5" or 4" Cobra R-Cervini offers, and I like the cowl's with the SVO scoop in the center..

Very Nice Car!!

Your makin it hard for me to decide which cowl hood to get for mine http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gifI was thinking 2 1/2 cowl that a guy I know has on this car

http://home.dencity.com/Mustanguy/pg87a.jpg

But after seeing how well the 4" hood looks on yours, man it's a hard decision http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif How is it for visibility while driving?

Rick 91GT 06-23-2001 07:02 AM

Well you can't see small children or animals but it does look good....now in all seriousness it really wasn't hard to get use to, it does block a little visabilty to the rh side front corner, but was very easy to get use to. I love the look of the 4", the 2.5" always looked a little small to me, plus this will give me room to fit whatever my future will hold under the hood. Right now with a 1" phenolic spacer my Holley intake sits about 2-3/4"-3" up inside my cowl, and the gauges I have tuck nicely behind the hood.

What does a phenolic spacer do?

I've seen it mentioned a few times before and it has been nagging at me.

the phenolic spacer helps to keep the upper intake cooler by insulating it from the hot lower...

While we're on the subject of hoods, does anyone make a stock style (no cowl or anything) 'glass hood? I'm wanting to keep a sleeper look.

I like the Harwood myself. I was thinking about selling it, as well as the 87-up nose, to put mine back to 86 standards, but can't go through with it.

Yes I have seen these in the mags, not quite sure who has it though? Design Concepts maybe, or ABC.
