Custom chips question
I am going to get a custom chip and I would like opinions on who you think does the best work at a reasonable price. Thanks.

If your thinking about mail ordering one, I say forget it. Having one burnt while on the dyno will probably net minimum, 30 more rwhp than ordering one through the mail. |
I have had it dynoed and have a printout of the a/f ratio from the dyno runs.
|
Are you having some kind of problems with it that makes you want to get a chip? Most guys I know either want one to try and squeeze every last bit of hp out of it or are having some driveability issues? Does the shop that dynoed it burn chips?
|
No they don't burn chips at the dyno shop. My a/f ratio is too rich at low rpm's but it goes to lean under boost from 5,000 to 6,000 and I want the fuel mixture corrected with the chip.
|
Have you converted to MAF?, how is it your running an F cam and 1.7 rockers with Speed Density and flat top pistons?, man!, don't you have driveability problems? No flames, just wondering?
Whats your secret? |
It is converted to mass air and they car drives great. The reason for wanting a chip is that I blew a headgasket on the 11.19 pass. And when I put it back together I put it on the dyno to see what the a/f ratio was doing and I see why it blew a gasket and I don't want to do that again. I have pro series pistons from DSS that are fly cut.

Now I understand. I know nothing about any shops that burn chips in KY. All I can suggest is trying to find one that has a wide band O2 and burn chips close to you. Maybe someone else from the surrounding area can help you find a shop. If your close to the NC state line, I know of a shop in Asheville (western part of the state) that does good work.
What kind of fuel system are you running? How much hp did you make on the dyno, if you don't mind me asking? Great times by the way. |
I have an A9L computer, C&L 73 mass air meter, Lucas 48lb injectors, 190lph in tank and T-Rex inline pump with stock lines and rails. I had a fuel pressure guage on the vehile while on the
dyno and there was no fuel pressure drop off. You can see my specs in the user rides section #517 if you want to see all that I have. It made 443.9 rwhp under high humidity and 90 degree ambient temp. |
I'll look it up.

You've got good numbers there!
Talk to my friend Mike. It is possible to get a mail order chip to work right if you have dyno sheets with A/F readouts. andy |
My suggestion would be to have it done in person. I bought a JMS chip and have yet to get this thing to work. I paid $302 for it and was gonna stop by there, on my way to Fla, to see if they could get it to work and they wanted $75 an hour "to even look at it"(I'm not some $150k+ a year person). I pretty much wasted $302, get it done in person. It may cost you $600 but it would be alot better, I wish I had done that. :(
|
I have the JMS chip and like it. After my next coming mods and dyno tune, I was thinking of sending them my dyno sheet and having it reburnt.....also cause I'll be adding 150 shot of the sauce next year and don't want to have to reburn it again. The flip switch cmes in handy if you're running n2o, since all you have to do is flip the switch to the nitrous setting and flip it off when you're running n/a. Why wouldn't this work?
|
I started with a JMS chip on my (more or less) bone stocker. DId this just to offset the cost next year when the blower comes. Picked up 7rwhp on a stock motor.
THen I went to Mike Wesley himself (LITERALLY WAITED ON HIS DRIVEWAY) while he burned the chip. THis year I had www.alternativeauto.com wide-band O2 tune it on the street. No dyno numbers, but its a roadrace car, so I am more concerned about "behavior" than pusblishing some really big number. Lidio dis an outstanding job. Starts right up, idles fine, no bog, no hesitation... just perfect. And at a "safe" tune for me to run it 20 minutes at a time on/off full throttle. Oh, did I mention the 450+rwhp too! :) |
