D@mn SOB *$!#* What now?! Please HELP!
Ok...I jumped into my car just a second ago and fired it up. Drove to the end of the street and before it shifted down into 1st it just died. This has happened before and generally it just fires right back up. I turned it over and it fired up and died immediately. Repeated this two or three more times and then it quit firing. It turns over just fine but doesn't fire at all. Sprayed some starting fluid into the carb and it still did nothing. So it's gotta be the ignition. My MSD distributor and 6A box are less than a year old and my MSD coil is even newer (maybe 6 months?). I can't say for certain that it's getting gas but I can definitely smell it. Is it my 6A box or what? PLEASE HELP!!

Well...I know one or two of the plugs had been fouled for quite a while, but even if one had been working I would've gotten something when I turned it over. And I doubt the others could have fouled so suddenly and simultaneously. Also, if it matters, for a month or two after the engine was warmed up when giving it throttle off idle it would rev, then drop and hesitate for a split second, then kick back in with no problem as rpms increased.

Well...I've got an aftermarket fuel pump that makes a considerable amount of noise so I can hear it running.

One way to check if it's not getting fuel is to actually manually operate the throttle from the engine compartment while it's not running. The accelerator pump should shoot out some fuel. Another easy thing to check is if you see any loose ground connections or wires near anything hot that may have hidden problems from being burnt. One more thing you can check is take off the belt, and manually crank the engine with a breaker bar and check to see if the rotor is actually turning. You never know...maybe the distributor farted out or something broke.

I'm betting it's your ignition module
If it's not working, there will be no spark getting ANYWHERE.. ------------------ Paxton Blown 87GT ICQ#112698436 |

Did you hook up your MSD as an amplifier to the stock ignition or did you use the magnetic trigger off the distributor? If it is amplifying the stock ignition than the stock ignition would be able to keep the car running. If you operate the throttle by hand you'll be able to see or hear the accelerator pump shot. Check your wiring, then check to make sure your choke is operating properly.

The MSD (6A) box is running stand alone. After the car was swapped to a carb the original Duraspark stuff had to be ditched cuz it wouldn't work. And, low and behold, none of the MSD units for carbs will work without the MSD boxes.

If you still have the stock coil try putting it back on. I've heard of a few cases recently with new Blaster 2 coils being faulty including one of my own (it caught on fire-ruined my new FMS wires!) about a week after I got it (last October).

Have you ran the codes on it?? I had a problem just like this on my T-Bird and it ended up being the max air sensor. If you figure out it is not any of your ignition my bet would be on a bad sensor somewhere.

The car doesn't use any sensors. I had it converted to a carb from CFI so it doesn't use any computer stuff.

try cleaning the ground for the MSD.. sometimes you'll get corrosion and it'll shut it down... if there is still no spark ( you did check, right?) I'd say the MSD toasted..
